Knowing vs. "finding out"

So, I would have to say that I was one of the ones that "just knew."
"What do you mean? HOW did you know?"
Well, let me tell you, when your nipples feel like some one chomped clothes pins on them a few days after "trying" - you at might guess somethings up.
This feeling stopped after a solid week (side bar: sports bras were my best friend) and then I was open up to a week of nothing. Now, this might sound just fine, that the tip of my breasts were no longer on fire and that it wasn't followed by any other outrageous symptom, but if you're a neurotic chickadee like me - you've come to the right place for empathy because I got mighty paranoid! I had gone off of birth control the month before (yeah I'm a fertile Myrtle. What of it?) so I started thinking that this knowing feeling could be from any number of things. Heck, it was snowing that week and I thought maybe my nips really were that sensitive to the cold??
This is when I began testing. and FYI- pregnancy tests LIE!
So off I trotted to the nearest Target and purchased myself a pregnancy test - or five - and scoured their inserts for hours (all of this unbeknownst to my husband, poor man was out of the loop for weeks, but its supposed to be a surprise right?).
now these little piss-sticks lie to you in multiple ways, the first of which is that they say you can take one of these tests years before you are expecting your period and they will give you an accurate answer. Well being the anxious person I am, I took one as soon as possible (five days before your missed period) and my heart sank when only one line turned up.
(For those of you new to this scene like myself I'll break it down for you: with First Response Pregnancy Tests - whom every one raves over- one line means the test is working, and the second line shows up if you have HGC in your body - the "pregnancy hormone" and as for the digital tests, don't bother. They're more expensive and not having a line show up is a lot less painful then a little stick telling you NO!)
Anyways, after my first negative result I went on to take four more; before my expected period and days after. Finally, three days after my period was supposed to start I got a tiny, faint, hardly there line.... and totally didn't think it "counted."
So I hit the internet. I researched for hours and I came across the site PeeOnaStick.com - very informational- and there I learned the golden rule that "a line is a line is a line" not matter how puny it is. With this info I once again stocked up on test (only three this time - they come in three packs ok. and its about $12 so ease up on calling me uneconomical. on something this important I would ha
ve spent my last breath). This was on Saturday, I took two tests Sunday morning, got decent lines,
and told my husband in church that morning that I was going to cut my hair.
He knew what that meant, but i'll save the explanation for next time, I have to go get ready. We're telling my mom today!

much love
Nicole
